Do apps with Apple Watch support automatically update ..?

When an iPhone app with Apple Watch app support, and the main app is updated and there are changes to the Apple Watch app, is the Watch app automatically updated? Or do I need to delete the Apple Watch app and reinstall it after the main app has been updated?

The Apple Watch app will be automatically updated as the phone app is updated.

Also, if the app developer drops Apple Watch support for their app it will disappear from your Apple Watch.
