Data retaining after phone exchange

Hi, I'll be given a new iphone4 since my current one is faulty. I can't sync it with computer. Problem is: will I be able to retain new contacts and messages created AFTER the last possible sync, to have them in my new phone? Thanks

If you upgraded to ios 5 you could sync to iCloud. That's what I did

However... if you weren't on iOS 5 w/ your faulty 4 then most likely no. There will be no save of the messages or contacts that were created after your last sync.

I can offer some hope... If you are on AT&T, you could have potentially backed up your contacts to your SIM card. If so, got to Setting>Email, Contacts, and Calendars> then scroll down a bit and select "Import SIM Contacts".
