Using just water as the manual says does NOT really get the screen clean. Are there any safe products that can be used ? It always shows smears, even with a really clean cloth and water.

Many thanks.

Use a clean dry microfiber towel and you will have the best results.

Cotton ball w/ a dab of rubbing alcohol... and I definitely mean a dab. It'll clear up all the grease. Then, clear off the remaining alcohol w/ a dry cotton ball or cotton cloth.

The iPhone has an oleophobic coating on the touchscreen, which is supposed to help resist/repel fingerprints. The reason Apple tells you not to use any cleaning product (including alcohol) is that it can damage or remove that coating. I'd stick with the microfiber cloth as suggested by iFrog, but I've also been known to use a clean cotton t-shirt like iCrank.

Valid point... I didn't even think about that. With that said... I've only actually used the rubbing alcohol once. When I cleaned the phone to put a vinyl wrap on it.
