hi folks
The health check on my 2 year old battery showed 82% capacity and I noticed it needed charging more often, so I ordered a new battery online and installed it.
Great, the capacity was back up to 100%, but a few weeks later I noticed that the phone
was very warm when charging. Not long after that it kept shutting down with the battery icon on the screen showing very erratic percentages, but the constant being that when it rebooted it always showed 1% then quickly jumped up to whatever it was before shutting down...When I opened the case back up, the replacement battery had split open at the bottom where the connector tape joins it.... so I went to the local phone repair shop and purchased another battery....installed it, but the problem of shutting down and rebooting continued...
At this point , fearing that the first faulty battery had damaged something else I took it to an independent apple re-pear specialist here in Glasgow hoping they could run some form of diagnostics on it and pinpoint the problem.
Alas, their diagnosis......faulty battery... so they replaced it...now, since then it has only shut down unexpectedly once...and its been three weeks since it was repaired..
My question is this... the new battery is only showing 80% capacity and drains really quick if I'm on the internet or social media...
Do you think there's is an issue with the phone due to the first replacement battery bursting in the phone or is it possible that the battery fitted by the "shop" is not new...

Also, I'm under the impression that apple will not entertain any further repairs to the phone as it's been "fixed" elsewhere.... is this anyone else's experience.

Thanks in advance
DB.

As many batteries as you've gone through, I would definitely vote for something else being faulty. I'll also add that my phone got ran over by a car a year and a half ago, phone at end is split, and battery is shaped like the letter C, but it works perfectly (so does phone, and not a crack on it other than ends coming apart). In other words, the batteries are pretty durable IMO. I suspect something else.

Thanks for you prompt reply,
I'm leaning towards the first battery failure causing some sort of damage elsewhere.
I'll maybe chance my are and take it to apple, play dumb and see what happens.

What is the age (not when you bought it) of your current battery?

I’ve just opened the phone up and it would appear to be a genuine Apple battery that’s in it now, although there is no date on the side that’s visible, should it be on this side.
