Audio / Video to TV????

I was under the impression that I could connect my Verizon iPhone 4 to my TV and view photos and videos. I bought the cables that have the yellow video, red and white, RCA plugs. When I hook it all up I get a message on my phone says it's not supported. I don't want to jailbreak my phone yet. I'm running 4.2.8.
What's up?

You will likely have to wait for ios 5.0 which will probably come out this fall. You can thank Verizon for the problem since any software upgrades must get their approval.
