Brace yourselves, for we got some more news from Las Vegas. You might remember that somewhere around June, AT&T partnered up with Panasonic and ONX Software Systems in order to research certain “connected lifestyle projects” – as they were called, in Peachtree City, Georgia. Then there was some silence about the matter, but now, the curtain is ready to be dropped.

Say hello to the new Siri-inspired virtual assistant that will make your driving a more pleasurable experience overall. Automobile manufactures will be able from now on to implement the technology into their cars, as a way to keep the driver’s focus on the road.

So what does this mean exactly? Well, apparently every cloud-connected car that will include Watson will be able to reply to your voice orders, regulate your GPS or change the radio channel when that nasty song you hate so much comes on. Apparently the initial testing of the technology is already under way, deep into the Peachtree City labs. Here’s what Derek Kuhn, vice chairman of sales and marketing for ONX Software Systems had to say about the project:

“User experiences which are natural and intuitive, that simplify access to mobile and cloud-based services, and that help drivers stay focused are key to consumer adoption of tomorrow’s connected vehicles,”

AT&T is also trying to reach the next level in terms of human-machine communication. The company claims that they are focusing their best efforts on making drivers feel comfortable enough to think they are actually carrying a conversation with their own automobile. Like when you’re talking to your mom on the way to the supermarket? I don’t know if that’s just plain weird, or futuristic. Watson has also been described as a trusty companion, willing to provide you with directions or even weather updates, so we are interested in seeing where this concept might go.

Interesting! I wonder if it will be free or require a subscription?
