My buddy have me a iPhone 3G from AT&T and he wants to use it for an mp3 player but when I power it on its stuck on emergency call only mode and also says sim lock on phone and in iTunes anyone got a link on how to solve this problem that would be awesome!

You have to activate it with an official SIM or jailbreak and hacktivate.

I would suggest greenpois0n or limera1n. Redsn0w requires you to download a 4.2.1 IPSW to jailbreak whereas greenpois0n or limera1n only require the application. No need for a tutorial, the program walks you through it.

How can I tell what my iOS firmware is if my phone is locked?

iTunes will tell you, if you aren't already up to date you need to update to 4.2.1

Thanks I just did . I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong to get into dfu mode but now I know I think the home button is partially broken lol fml about ready to use this phone as target practice lol
