MacRumors reports that Apple has started rejecting apps in the App Store that have screenshots that show violent scenes or guns, according to the original report on Pocket Gamer.

Consequently, developers have had to change their app screenshots or blur out any of the offending items, such as firearms, in order to get their app into the App Store. It seems that Apple really means business on this one!

MacRumors says that it has been a long-standing policy of Apple’s that all front-facing App Store material must be child-friendly, but it seems that it has only recently started to enforce this ruling more stringently.

However, in a post directly addressing the Pocket Gamer story, Jim Dalrymple at The Loop says that he has heard from Apple that “the company is being more liberal lately with what it allows in the App Store for images and screenshots. I don’t know the specifics of individual games, but overall, Apple is being more lenient of late.”

Because Dalrymple doesn’t have specific details of what is meant by “liberal” it’s hard to know exactly what is meant by this, or if it means that Apple is cracking down harder on violent imagery, but being more liberal in other areas.
