Apps for Earth raises more than 8 million dollars for WWF.JPG

Back in April, Apple ran a special Apps for Earth campaign over a 10-day period in the App Store to support the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). More than just Apple promoting the WWF, it also involved Apple working with 24 developers to publish special educational and entertainment apps (including the likes of Angry Birds) in the App Store, with all funds raised going directly and entirely to the WWF.

And it seems that they did a spectacular job for the organisation, as iDownload Blog reports that Apple and the WWF have just announced that Apps for Earth raised more than $8 million for the cause.

“Apps for Earth proved small actions really can equal big change,” said Carter Roberts, president and CEO of the WWF in a press release. “This campaign boosts our efforts to protect the world’s forests, oceans, fresh water and wildlife, and combat the dual threats of climate change and unsustainable food production. Our work rests on engaging hundreds of millions around the world—to understand our profound reliance on the Earth and to act to protect the natural world that supports all of us.”

Roberts went on to say that he was “blown away by the devotion that Apple and the 24 developers brought to this campaign.”
