It's been a good amount of time since Apple had an iPhone or iPod Touch dock on store shelves. With the last few iPhone iterations, folks wanting to dock their smartphones would need to resort to purchasing from third-party companies like Belkin or Griffin.

On Tuesday, Apple surprised iPhone owners by quietly releasing a new official dock on the Apple Store. The dock does what you might expect but is also engineered in a way that allows for official Apple cases to fit on it. The sleek dock obviously has a Lightning-male connector, for an iPhone or iPod Touch, and a Lightning-female port to plug in a cable.

As with most Apple docks, the 2015 dock also brings back the line-in jack so that music can be played through speakers while an iOS device is sitting atop. The dock supports the iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5, as well as any iPod Touch with a Lightning connector. Apple's new dock can be found on the Apple Store website for $39.99 with an estimated shipping time of 1-3 days.

It's in the UK Apple Store too at £35.
