After previous reports which were placing the UK Apple Pay launch this summer and on the 14th of July, Apple's payment service has now indeed launched in the United Kingdom. Thus, nine months after its release in the U.S., Apple Pay is now making its entry to the first country outside the United States.

Available for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch users, the service comes with support from more than 250,000 retail locations and 8 major banks. American Express, First Direct, HSBC, Nationwide, NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland, Santander and Ulster Bank are counted among the first participating financial institutions and Boots, Waitrose, Pret and Transport for London are offering initial retail support.

Future bank support from Halifax, Lloyds, and the Bank of Scotland is scheduled to hit this fall and many others will most likely join the service. Users in the UK should see services roll out as merchant POS systems update throughout the day.
