According to a new report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), via AppleInsider, Apple had the largest share of US smartphone activations on carriers in the fourth quarter of 2017, ending December 31, with a 39% share. This represents a 10% increase from the September 2017 quarter, where Apple had 29% activation share, and a 5% increase from the year ago share of 34% in 2016.

Android devices, in contrast, saw a fall of 4% from the year ago quarter, down to 60% from 64% in the December quarter in 2016, and a drop of 11% from the September 2017 quarter share of 71%.

CIRP partner and co-founder Josh Lowitz attributed Apple’s increase in share of activations in the December 2017 quarter to the company’s major product launches in that time period, in particular the iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, without much Android completion.

As far as brands as a whole are concerned, Apple was also ahead of its rivals, with a 39% share. Samsung was second, with a 32% share, and LG a distant third, with a 13% share.
