Tech Crunch reports that Apple has issued a very pointed statement to them following FCC commissioner Ajit Pai’s public exhortation to the company to activate FM chips that he claimed were in iPhones, citing the devastation caused by recent hurricanes as a good reason why Apple should do so, with his strong wording implying somewhat that Apple was uncaring.

Apple doesn’t always respond to such matters, but for a company that prides itself on its philanthropy and caring attitude, it clearly could not leave such comments hanging in the air without a fitting response. The statement delivered to Tech Crunch tells the FCC, in the most polite of terms, that it doesn’t know what it’s talking about. Here’s the statement in full.
“Apple cares deeply about the safety of our users, especially during times of crisis and that’s why we have engineered modern safety solutions into our products. Users can dial emergency services and access Medical ID card information directly from the Lock Screen, and we enable government emergency notifications, ranging from Weather Advisories to AMBER alerts. iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 models do not have FM radio chips in them nor do they have antennas designed to support FM signals, so it is not possible to enable FM reception in these products.”

Although Apple doesn’t mention iPhone X in the statement, Tech Crunch says that it believes that the iPhone X also comes under the same criteria as the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

The FCC chair can have the country's infrastructure improved (electric, cellular, bridges, roadways, etc), that will help much more during catastrophic events.

Sorry for the rant, but with the gov. It's always an excuse...

I think the same holds true for any phone unless it's advertised as having FM, if any exist.
