Apple files patent for 360 display.JPG

9to5 Mac reports that Apple has today had a patent granted for “a consumer electronic product [which] includes at least a transparent housing and a flexible display.”

The drawing that was filed along with the patent application shows a phone with a display that wraps fully around it, across front, rear, and the sides, with slim bezels at top and bottom.

As is often the case with patent applications, this one took several years to be granted, with it originally being filed in 2011, as you can see by the fact that it features an old 30-pin connector rather than the current Lightning connector.

The device is also missing a home button, but is possibly embedded in the display itself, as Apple has already had a patent granted for a Touch ID sensor embedded in the display.

Of course, as with all patent filings, a finished product based on the patent may never see the light of day, but interesting all the same to see what Apple was working on back in 2011.
