Bloomberg has today broken the news that Apple would appear to have fired Richard Williamson, who was the manager of the ill-fated iOS 6 Maps team. According to the breaking story, Williamson was fired by Apple’s senior vice president, Eddy Cue. The information had not been made public until Bloomberg learned of the firing via sources. Those same anonymous sources also told Bloomberg that Apple has made the move as part of its attempt to win back the trust of those who were disappointed by the iOS 6 Maps app. Bloomberg goes on to say that Eddy Cue is now looking for advice as to how to proceed with the app, and turning to mapping technology experts outside of Apple. He is also trying to get TomTom to sort out the erroneous landmark and navigation data that it is responsible for sharing with Apple. Meanwhile, Bloomberg notes, Google is still readying its own revamped rival Maps app.
