9to5 Mac reports that Apple has opened a special section on iTunes to enable you to donate to the American Red Cross Earthquake and Tsunami relief fund for Japan. The link gives you the option to donate in increments of $5.00, starting at $5.00 up to $200.00. According to iTunes, 100% of your donation will go to the American Red Cross. The Red Cross says that donations will enable them to provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance to victims of all disasters. For those outside the US who are interesting in donating via iTunes, it might be best to check with your regional iTunes. As far as I can see, the UK iTunes doesn’t yet have any such facility in place, but each country may be different.

9to5 Mac also quotes the following message that has just been posted by Apple on the Apple Japan website:

“To those who have been affected by the earthquake and tsunami, we send sympathies from our heart. In this deep sadness, we are praying for the victims and their families.”
