Apple let audience down at WWDC 2011 and did not introduce any new version of the iPhone, thefore all the media’s attention focuses on the traditional Apple Conference from this autumn where everybody expects the company to finally present its new smartphone. Expectations regarding the iPhone 4S are not that high, a small hardware upgrade should be available, but no major changes in terms of external design. The new smartphone will be compatible both with GSM and CDMA networks, sources from Apple’s partner companies suggest.

Apart from the double GSM and CDMA functionality, Apple could be planning to incorporate a SIM card slot in its next iPhone „for countries except United States”, 9to5Mac informed.
The rumor matches the photos Macotakara revealed via Global Direct Parts. The Cupertino giant reportedly issued a warning to Global Direct Parts stating that publication of the images violated its copyright. The photos may be genuine otherwise Apple would not have bothered to warn Global Direct Parts.

Speculations regarding the launch of a „world mode” smartphone compatible with any type of network have been around ever since the CDMA iPhone 4 was launched. Now it appears that all information and rumors suggest Apple could actually be developing such a smartphone version. The new iPhone will apparently have a smaller slit on the front side for the speaker and another small slit for the device’s front facing camera. Apple could also be planning to integrate an antenna for the 5GHz wavelength which enables Wi-Fi 802.11n, other rumors claim.

As for Apple’s next iPhone, it is estimated that production could start somewhere in August and the smartphone could be released in September or in October at the latest.
