A new survey coming from comScore brings a puzzling bit of information. According to the story, Apple has now stepped up as being America’s second largest mobile maker, owning 17.8% of the total market share. Samsung experienced a growth compared to last year when it only had 25.6%.

Apple managed to only snatch up the runner-up position after Samsung. Cupertino currently owns 17.8% of the market share. Apple experienced a growth too, rising with 1.5% when compared to last year. Apple pushed away from number 2 one of its biggest competitors on the US market – the Korean company and supplier LG. The difference between Apple and LG is quite meager, the latter company holding 17.6% of the mobile market. The fourth to make it to the comScore top was Motorola with only 11%.

The report also shed some light regarding how widespread certain mobile operating systems are. Google’s Android came on top, as 56% of the market is soaked by devices sporting this particular operating system. Android experienced a growth compared to last year when it only had a dominion over 53.6%.

Apple comes in at number two in this top as well. In 2012, the iOS holds 34.3%, while in 2011 it only had 33,4%. But not all companies experienced a growth in the operating system department. For example Research in Motion experienced a fall from the 9.5% of last year to only 7.8% in 2012. And with all the efforts it is making, Microsoft and its recently released Windows 8 Phone platform only managed to score 3.2%, a downgrade from the previous 3.6%.
