All contacts on icloud

I have recently bought a MacBook Air and when I added my Apple ID it took contacts that were in my iCloud and added them to the contacts on my MacBook, however there are loads of contacts missing, how can I get the rest of my contacts to show on my MacBook without having to as them one by one!?
