According to a report on BGR today, Apple is continuing to try and distance itself from rivals Samsung, with a new report from DigiTimes saying that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has already started work on Apple’s new A7 processor, prior to starting production of the chip in May-June, ready for it to be shipped commercially in early 2014. DigiTimes’ sources also say that TSMC is expanding its production facilities at the Tainan Science Park, and will be investing the equivalent of $16.87 billion in the facilities where the A7 chip will be built. As BGR notes, what is significant about this story is the fact that it looks like TSMC will be the main supplier of Apple’s processing chips now, rather than Samsung. A previous story on BGR noted how Apple is also intending to use Intel (INTC) to build its chips and help it move away from Samsung. [/FONT]
