3gs won't boot up after restoring it

before selling my phone (iphone 3GS OS 3.1.3) i thought i would restore it and erase all content, but now it won't boot up. it comes on and displays the white apple logo, and then the loading icon comes up over the apple, then after about 10 mins the screen goes blank for 1 second and then the white apple logo comes on again and the cycle repeats.

I don't care what firmware i get it on, I just want it working so i can sell it.

any help would be great

well after much timing and trial and error i found out if i was holding the home and power buttons at the brief moment the screen went off (after 11 minutes precisely) then it would go into dfu mode
