How do I get back to the MESSAGES appearing as a list? (see attached pic)

I have several apps that alert me for this or that e.g. hourly timer beep. The apps are all functioning but no sound alerts anymore. None of 'em. Surely a box needs ticking or unticking but I can't see what it is?
