It's happened to a couple of my phones, not sure why. Usually holding the home button and power button in for like 5 seconds will turn it back on, sometimes takes a few attempts.

Yeah as DaveM said it's the Taptic engine that can do that two tap vibration, and my guess is the SE doesn't have Taptic since the 5s didn't. Anyways it's a relief to know it's not broken.

It was on 10.3.3 and done it, my uncles does the normal quick vibration thing but it's on an older ios. I'm hoping its meant to be like it is otherwise its a pretty hard issue to find and fix.

I'm attempting to get proof of purchase and such now. Unfortunately there are no Apple stores nearby, so I will need to call Apple. Hopefully they can fix it over the phone.

What options do I have?

I can also get the original boxing of the phone, would that be proof of ownership?
