I recently got an iPhone4 that was not activated as a part of any contract. When I connect it to my computer it came up with a screen showing the usb to iTunes (recovery mode). iTunes identified the phone to be in recovery mode and prompted me to restore and update. However when I go through that step, I got an error 21.
I got into DFU mode and tried restoring and got another error (don't remember exactly, 3194, 1601 something like that). I downloaded an ipsw for iOS 5.1.1 and tried restoring to that ipsw, however I got yet another error.
Why am I unable to update this iPhone? Do I need the iphone to be tied to an itunes software even before I activate it? I am not sure what is going on. Any ideas? thanks in advance...
