Yes, cause the 4.0.2 was such a tiny iOS update, only thing that got updated was the jailbrake. So there is no need to update from 4.0.1 to 4.0.2, but there much more in v.4.1.

Its possible to change the battery yourself. You need some specific tools, a steady hand and some patience to make the change.. But I agree! Apple want to squeeze the most out of their customers. The closed battery, the bluetooth and the locked ios... This is why I'll never buy anything else...
