I've found my contacts! I was looking in the browny coloured contacts folder but they're in the contacts section when you go into the phone section! Don't know if they were always there or if I've done something to make them appear! Still doesn't explain the error message I suppose.

Update! My notes and Calendar are there but all my contacts are still missing.
