I realise the phones are not the same. The 7 does not have an headphone socket. It has stereo speakers that are
4 inches apart. And many more things that l don't have time to talk about. So on to your reply.

That is/supposed to be a power saving feature for this model, however no phone calls were taken.

From what l can find out.
The battery on the 5s is 1507 mAH
And the 7 is 1960 mAh
Regarding your car, it could have all the latest technology in the world in it.
Quad Turbo overdrive with slick shifts.
22 cylinders with 4 plugs each, 10 valves.
And a sunroof to keep the driver cool.
If you don't run the engine you aren't gonna burn any gas as you say. Over time the gas will evaporate, through rubber gaskets and things, will take years.
However if the key is turned on to standby the battery will drain, depending on what you use.
This can be measured and this is what l've tried to do.

In 8 hours mine dropped 10% on standby with the settings that you see.
The technology should be better l guess with all the new apps and stuff. Before l disappear would like to say l have absolutely nothing against Apple or my ipad or my iPhone 5s
