What happens to photos that are shot using the iOS7 filters?

I downloaded (from my iPhone to my computer) the first batch of photos where I used the new iOS7 filters. To my surprise, I found out that the photos were just plain normal photos on the computer. No sign of any color filters or effects at all. OK, the square photos were actually square, the panoramas were complete... but no color effects anywhere. Where's the catch? Is this also one of those things that iOS saves elsewhere?
