Recode reports that Twitter has today launched a new feature that it has been trialling for several months, threading, a.k.a. “tweetstorms,” or the ability to send a string of connected tweets that Twitter will automatically turn into a thread and publish together. The tweetstorm” will also get a “show this thread” icon so that people know that the tweet is longer than usual.

According to Recode, tweetstorms have been around for a long time on Twitter, with venture capitalist Marc Andreessen credited as being one of the first famous people to use them. However, they took some effort to post previously, as you had to publish each tweet individually. Here’s what the Twitter blog had to say about how to use the new threads/tweetstorm feature:

“We’ve made it easy to create a thread by adding a plus button in the composer, so you can connect your thoughts and publish your threaded Tweets all at the same time. You can continue adding more Tweets to your published thread at any time with the new ‘Add another Tweet’ button. Additionally, it’s now simpler to spot a thread – we’ve added an obvious ‘Show this thread’ label.”

Don’t worry if you don’t have the ability to post threads yet as Twitter says it will be rolling the update out over the coming weeks.
