My Wifi used to work perfectly and easily under iOS3 and 4 but no matter what I do it won't work in 5. So I abandoned hope and learned of TetherMe. Well despite it not being compatible on 5 for use as a WIFI hub it is ready for BlueTooth which is what I used in the past most. But no matter what I do it just won't work. I'm not a newb to setting this up. Yes, the 4s and my MBPro are paired as BlueTooth devices. Yes, I broke connect and did it again. Yes, there is a BlueTooth PAN serial connection showing in my Network window of the SystemPreferences on the Mac. Yes, in my phone Personal Hotspot is on.

But when I say 'connect to network' in my Mac - Blue Tooth flashes and goes solid on both devices for about 5 seconds then disconnects immediately. I've tried everything I know how to do and I'm a friggin' network specialist. LOL!! Anybody having the same trouble. The type of connection is set to Acquire DHCP which is exactly how is "should" work.

I'm desperate to get this working. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. I don't want to believe I just spent $5 for nothing.

Thanks!

TetherMe is definitely compatible with iOS5(WiFi, Bluetooth and USB). Just turn on your personal hotspot and then pair your phone with your computer. Then click the bluetooth icon in your Mac menu bar and scroll to your device and select "Connect to network."

I am posting this tethered to my iPhone4S network via bluetooth right now.

Also have you connected via the "password" provided within the personal hot spot settings. I'm sure you have but it could be something as simple as this.

When tethering via Bluetooth you do not have to enter a password. You just need to enter the bluetooth pairing code that you have set up on your Mac when you are pairing the device.

Yes. That is what I meant. 😝 but being the IT specialist the OP is, it didn't need much direction just maybe a hint 😉

Actually it says right in the literature on TetherMe in Cydia that Wifi is not compatible in iOS5. Bluetooth and USB are compatible in 5 - not Wifi. I've done everything you've described and it's not working for me at all. Now I didn't try Wifi yet because it wasn't an option in the set up window. As the directions say - it's not compatible with iOS5 - only bluetooth and USB. You must have a special version if Wifi's working for you. :) But thanks.

It's just not working for me.

Bluetooth only requires pairing - not a password. The password is for Wifi connection only. But thanks..

EDIT: oops - didn't see the other two posts before responding. Bottom line -- Bluetooth is not working for me. Neither is wifi or usb.. But Everything time I respring my phone the "blue" tethering light comes across the top of my iPhone screen and I can't turn it off. But my computer still won't connect. I just uninstalled it all. I'll be asking for a refund from Cydia. Not worth the $5 for a very buggy piece of software. MyWiFi5.0 was also a waste of $20. Never worked for me either. MyWiFi worked perfectly in iOS 3 and 4. Broken in 5.

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB all work perfectly fine for me on iOS5 on my iPhone4S, always have. You must be reading old literature.

Also, it is not buggy at all and it's worth 10x what I paid for it. Here is a screenshot of my Macbook connected both via Wi-Fi and also via Bluetooth running the latest version of the official TetherMe app(2.3-9)

Not old literature at all, JMills. Just look it up on Cydia right now. It clearly says Wifi is not certified on iOS5. I'm not saying it can't work. Many things not yet certified for iOS5 actually do work on 5 like 5RowKeyboard works perfectly well for me on iOS5. Others no. What I'm saying is TetherMe ("official package") version you noted does not work for me on Wifi or Bluetooth and it destabilized my entire phone of all "official" packages. I must have another package that is conflicting with it. Wouldn't be the first time thats happened in the jailbreak world. The JB world is not an inherently stable operating environment. ;-) Let's face it. Lol! Glad it's working for you. Wish it did for me. :-(. As I said MyWifi worked perfectly for me on 4.3.3 JB. It doesn't work for me either on 5.0.1 Absinthe JB. Wonder of it's a coincidence that neither TetherMe nor MyWifi work for me. What could be set wrong in my phone or laptop? I've followed the instructions to a tee.

Just do a fresh restore.

P.S. nowhere on Cydia does it say that wifi tethering does not work with iOS5. Are you sure you purchased the package or are you getting it from a piracy repo?

i've never used pirated software as i told you in another thread. i'll take a photo of the instructions on Cydia. Give me a minute. But I agree it's time for a fresh restore. should I be trusting of PKGBkup being able to get me back all my stuff?

Ok Jmills. Read the second paragraph carefully. Personal hotspot Wifi is only supported for iPhone 4 not 4s. Very clear explanation.

I also had this problem with TetherMe. I guess I didn't read the fine print about the personal hotspot not working. I changed programs and now use something called PDAnet to tether my iphone via USB and it also provides a WiFi hotspot. The software is free. You do have to run a client program on a PC in order to use it though. Check it out.

Good news !! A restore and rejailbreak did it! TetherMe now works on all three including Wifi Personal HotSpot which Cydia's literature page that I posted earlier says should NOT work. But it does. Now I tested it BEFORE I ran my restore from PkgBkup of all my Cydia stuff. So we'll see in the morning if TetherMe still works after all my packages are back. And PkgBkup worked beautifully too. Took a long time to restore but all tweaks and settings came back except icon position.

Thanks JMills for the restore advice. Took a half day of work to get back to where I was this morning. But I'm happy.
