According to new rumours said to be directly from Apple’s supply chain, Apple has had to increase orders for chips for the iPhone SE from its manufacturers, as the lower-priced iPhone is proving to be more popular than even Apple had expected. So much so that AppleInsider reports that Apple intends to manufacture over 5 million units in just this quarter in order to keep up with the strong demand. Apple had previously been planning to build in the region of 3.5 to 4 million iPhone SE units in the current quarter.

The iPhone SE has had supply issues ever since launch, with new orders currently still not shipping for 2 to 3 weeks. Apple CEO Tim Cook commented last week that even Apple had been surprised by the strong demand for the 4-inch iPhone.

And it looks as though this demand is set to continue, as its expected that third-quarter orders for the iPhone SE will remain at current high levels.
