Stuck in restore/recovery???

Tried updating to ios 7 but iTunes and iPhone 4 have been stuck on these screens for 2 hours. Every now and then the computer makes the connected/disconnected noise but nothing seems to be happening. I have the latest iTunes version and my phone has not been jailbroken or altered in any way.

Restore rather than update

I did stop the update and what is above is what I've been stuck on now for 3 hours after clicking restore

Put the device into DFU mode and retry. Also note that the Apple servers are bloated, so the verification process will take several attempts

I can't get it to go into DFU mode, can't get it to do anything. Apple tech support tried blaming the USB cable, unless those just go bad out of the blue for no reason, it's fine. I gave up and just took it back to the Sprint store and let them deal with it. 2 days of this headache is enough. I'll never buy another Apple product again.
