Apple offers both-same price-is the carrier version locked to the one carrier and sim free unlocked?

If the iPhone is locked to a carrier, the eSIM (Apple SIM) has to be from the same carrier as the nano-SIM.

Er um I know these phones have sims but can you help me understand the rain v nano sim or do you need both?

Sorry: rain?
Maybe I don’t understand your question.

This is what I meant:
When you purchase one of these iPhones from your carrier, it’s locked to that carrier, and Apple’s eSIM can’t be used for a different carrier.
When you buy the device from Apple, there’s the option to get it without carrier (SIM free) as well. You can activate it with any carrier.

You don’t have to use both SIMs.
