Mashable reports that it is looking increasingly more likely that Apple is indeed working on an all-glass design iPhone.

It has to be said that the original sources of this particular rumour were already pretty good, so it should come as no big surprise that the rumour is looking more and more likely to be right on the money.

The first mention of Apple’s returning to an all-glass design for a future iPhone came in March from well-connected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Then renowned Apple expert John Gruber of Daring Fireball said on his The Talk Show podcast that his sources had told him that Apple was working on an all-glass design iPhone with an edge-to-edge display. He had also heard from his sources that the home button/Touch ID sensor, would be part of the actual display.

Now, though, we have even more concrete evidence than those two well-connected sources, with the chairman of longtime iPhone supplier Catcher Technology, Allen Horng, stating at the company’s annual shareholder meeting that the 2017 iPhone will have an all-glass display. And while this is still not official confirmation, it's fair to say that Catcher is a particularly well-placed source as it has been making iPhone chassis for the past few years.

“As far as I know, only one [iPhone] model will adopt glass casing next year,” Horng told reporters. However, he added that he didn’t think Catcher would lose too much business from the move, as “glass casing still needs a durable metal frame which requires advanced processing technology and would not be cheaper than the current model.”
