Rumour says that iPhone 8 will be called iPhone Edition.JPG

According to a new report on Japanese website Mac Otakara, via MacRumors, what everyone has, up until now, been calling the forthcoming iPhone 8 may actually be called the “iPhone Edition.” The reason for the name change is to signify that the top-of-the-line phone is a higher-end, luxury device, just as with the Apple Watch Edition. This would also tie in with other recent rumours that the flagship 2017 iPhone will cost more than $1,000.

Mac Otakara’s sources also say that Apple is testing a variety of prototypes for the iPhone 8, including experimenting with screen technology and materials. Some prototypes have an OLED display, whereas others have an LCD display.

The source also says that Apple is still testing prototypes with and without a home button, as well as different chassis, including glass, aluminum, and white ceramic.

So it seems that many key features of the high-end iPhone are still very much up in the air, with Mac Otakara saying that the only features that are currently set in stone for the new high-end iPhone are the 5-inch display, wireless charging, and dual cameras.

Mac Otakara also backed up other recent rumours when it said that the iPhone 8, or iPhone Edition, will not launch alongside the two LED models in September, but much later than that.
