New rumours say iPhone 8 delayed by Samsung OLED screen supply issues.JPG

AppleInsider reports today on yet more rumours that production of Apple’s forthcoming OLED iPhone 8 has been delayed, with this latest report from Nikkei Asian Review saying that the current problems are due to issues with Samsung’s OLED display supply, rather than with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor yield as had been previously rumoured.

IHS Markit analyst Brian Huh told the Nikkei Asian Review that “there might be a one to two month delay in Samsung’s production of OLED panels for Apple. Samsung originally plans to begin churning out OLED panels in May but now the schedule will likely be pushed back to the end of June or sometime in July.” This means that the first OLED iPhone 8 models should be ready to ship to consumers in late October or early November.

The source also said that other issues that are causing production delays with the new phone include overheating problems in the wireless charging modules, low yield problems for the much smaller printed circuit board, and 3DNAND flash supply issues.
