Quick entry for events

I have iPhone 3G (NB: not 3GS).

If one is out and about and has to make a quick note of a new appointment, etc., is there any way of quickly entering a title, date and time without going through the lengthy full process — even if it later necessitates completing the data?

I have heard that there is some kind of 'Quick event' facility, but I have not found it on my phone.
