what are you trying to connect by way of the iphone? I tried mine yesterday and it gave me a password to link to my ipad which is wifi enable only, I typed the password on the ipad and I was connected. I was away from home and not near any wifi signals and it worked like a charm. Of course this should only be turned on as needed.
