According to a fresh Reuters report, it seems that the Pentagon is joining forces with Apple, Boeing, Harvard, and other tech companies in order to create cutting edge wearable technology for the military.

The consortium of high-tech firms and researchers is called the FlexTech Alliance and is comprised of 162 companies, universities and other firms and institutions. U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said the following:

"This is an emerging technology that takes advanced flexible materials for circuits, communications, sensors and power and combines them with thinned silicon chips to ultimately produce the next generation of electronic products. I've been pushing the Pentagon to think outside our five-sided box and invest in innovation here in Silicon Valley and in tech communities across the country"

The goal of the initiative is to create a flexible piece of technology, rich with sensors, that can be either worn by soldiers or even molded to the outside of a fighter jet. The entire project will be based out of San Jose, will have a duration of five years, and will receive a total of $171 million in funding.
