New FCC filings show Apple was working on gold iPhone X last year.JPG

MacRumors reports today that according to documents that were filed with the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Apple was at some point working on a gold iPhone X colour option.

The news was revealed in a document that Apple sent to the FCC about the iPhone X back in September 2017, which, among other images, included several images of a gold-coloured iPhone X that were sent to the FCC in order to illustrate various features of the iPhone X, including its dimensions.

Going by these images, the gold colouring used for this iPhone X prototype looked very much like that of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

According to other documents also sent to the FCC about the iPhone X, the filing was prepared by Apple back in July 2017, so it would seem that at that point, a gold-coloured iPhone X was still very much an option, along with the two colour variants that were eventually released, silver and space gray. This would also tie in with previous reports from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who last year said that Apple was working on a “Blush Gold” iPhone X but had run into production problems. At that time, Kuo said that Apple might release the Gold variant at a later date once it had ironed out the production issues.
