MacRumors writes that it has today confirmed reports that first surfaced yesterday that the forthcoming OLED iPhone 8 will be slightly curved. According to MacRumors sources, the OLED display will be flat across the front of the phone and slightly curved along the left and right edges in order to fit with the layer of 2.5D glass that will be covering the display. This means that while the edges below the cover glass will be curved, the display itself is not.

So with all the recent rumours floating around about the display, it looks like last week’s report from IHS Markit would appear to have come closest, with that particular report claiming that Apple would “adopt a flat implementation of OLED design on their special iPhone model, which is analogous to the current 2.5D glass design.” The same report also referred to the display as “mostly flat.”

This would also appear to confirm another recent report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who said that Apple was unlikely to adopt a fully curved display due to the production challenges involved.
