We all know that the iPhone has the ability to do many great things in the world. Ironically, Microsoft is looking to find even more uses on Apple's device, by adding 3D scanning capabilities.

On Monday, Microsoft released a video of its new MobileFusion project. The video shows a demo application for the project, running on an iPhone 5S. MobileFusion can scan objects with the rear camera of the device, turning a physical object into a digital 3D model.

The digital 3D model can then be used for many things, such as 3D printing. Microsoft is looking to bring its MobileFusion to the hands of all smartphone owners, not limiting its use to only the iPhone. Currently the tech giant is still testing the feature, but plans on releasing it on iOS and Android in the future.
