According to new studies about the evolution of the smartphone market this year reveal that Apple could have a significant impact on the trends, once again. Smartphones with support for 4G long time evolution (LTE) are expected to have an increased market share and will probably reach to 5% share of the global smartphone market. Analysts believe that a big role in pushing the LTE technology closer to the mainstream will have the next generation iPhone, rumored to have LTE support.

The well-informed DigiTimes published one report on this matter recently. The Taiwanese website, quoting as always anonymous sources from industry, suggested that 25 million to 30 million smartphones shipped this year will come with support for LTE technology. Most of them are expected to hit the shelves in the second half of the year, and among them Apple’s new flagship iPhone will most likely make some splash to say the least.

Other high end smartphones are also expected to push the LTE technology on a better position than it currently has. "While Android (is) still dominating the LTE smartphone segment, Nokia and HTC have launched LTE Windows Phone models, and Apple and RIM are expected to release comparable models running on their own platforms in the second half of 2012, indicated the sources," as DigiTimes writes.
