If you’re wondering why we haven’t seen quite so many iPhone 8 case leaks this year as in previous years, then AppleInsider just might have the answer, as a newly leaked document reveals that Apple has succeed in achieving a 99% drop in stolen iPhone cases from its manufacturing partners from 2014 to 2016.

The leaked Apple security briefing, which was published by The Outline today, gives a unique insight into Apple’s anti-leak department. The report starts with Apple CEO Tim Cook talking about “doubling down” on security, followed by employees talking about how they were impacted personally by product leaks.
“This has become a big deal for Tim,” said Apple’s vice president of iPod, iPhone and iOS product marketing Greg Joswiak. “Matter of fact, it should be important to literally everybody at Apple that we can’t tolerate this any longer.”

One of the Apple security team, David Rice, a former cryptologist for the U.S. Navy and ex-NSA, described Apple’s fight to stop leaks from Apple’s Chinese supply chain as “trench warfare non-stop.” He stated that bus stops outside the Chinese plants had adverts offering factory employees “top dollar” for Apple components, with some of them even being offered a year’s salary to steal Apple components.

Whatever they’re doing, it seems to be working, with the flood of leaks well and truly stemmed. The report goes into depth about how they do it, worth reading in full.
