Washing has finally declared iPhone, iPod Touch, etc. Jailbreaking to be legal. The E.F.F. (Electronic Frontier Foundation) has been fighting for its legality for some time now. iDevice Jailbreaking has always been in a bit of a grey area. But now, thanks to D.C. passing this, we can all Jailbreak our devices without having to worry about Napster police coming to your door. If you want to un-Jailbreak your device, just simply restore it.

SUCK IT APPLE!!! i hope now apple will be forced to release the firmware already jailbroken, but knowing apple they wont. at least give some kind of warning on itunes like any non approved apps you download its your fault if anything happens

It was only a matter of time before the people at Apple responded to the latest ruling on using unapproved software apps on the iPhone. Yesterday it had been reported that the Library of Congress made an exception to the copyright law and stated Apple iPhone users could use any app they wished, whether or not the app was approved by Apple. This brought up several issues concerning warranty and who would be responsible if a user broke his iPhone by using unauthorized apps on the phone. Since the first reports were made, Apple has responded with the following statement:

Apple’s goal has always been to insure that our customers have a great experience with their iPhone and we know that jailbreaking can severely degrade the experience. As we’ve said before, the vast majority of customers do not jailbreak their iPhones as this can violate the warranty and can cause the iPhone to become unstable and not work reliably.

They key word to the statement is the word ‘can’. Apple did not say that it will void the warranty.
