New survey finds iPhone still very popular with teens.JPG

New data issued by Piper Jaffray, via MacRumors, reveals that the iPhone is still the most popular smartphone with teens.

Piper Jaffray’s bi-annual U.S. teen survey showed that 76% of those teens that were surveyed own an iPhone, an increase from 69% in spring 2016. This represents the highest percentage of ownership ever reported in the survey. The figure of 81% of those teens surveyed who said that their next phone would be an iPhone was also a record for the survey, up from 75% a year ago.

Piper Jaffray puts this increase in interest in the iPhone among teens down to anticipation about the forthcoming iPhone 8 (or “iPhone X,” as they call it), which is expected to have an OLED display, edge-to-edge screen, glass body, and wireless charging.

The same survey also found that teens continue to be interested in smart watches, with 13% of teens surveyed saying that they planned to buy an Apple Watch in the next 6 months, up from 11%D a year ago. Fitbit is the most popular brand by a big margin, with Apple Watch in second place.

Piper Jaffray’s teen survey was based on responses from 5,500 teens in the United States, with 16 being the average age of those surveyed.
