Just as predicted by various analysts recently, demand for the iPhone 7 has started to fall away as we approach the end of the year. According to a source in Apple’s Taiwanese supply chain, as quoted in DigiTimes, demand for the iPhone 7 in China and other markets has fallen sharply since its launch in September. It’s thought that the early strong demand for the phone was buoyed by the popularity of the new Jet Black models, and also by Samsung’s recall of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

This slowing in demand is reflected in suppliers’ more conservative shipment forecasts for the iPhone 7 for the first half of 2017, with 5 million less units expected than for the second half of 2016.

However, it’s worth noting that Apple typically reduces its iPhone orders towards the end of the year anyway, as demand usually slows after the high-demand post-launch period, and this year is no exception to that. We’ll have to wait until January for Apple to reveal its results from the first entire quarter of iPhone 7 sales to really make sense of the figures.

Another reason for the slowing in interest in the iPhone 7 could be that suppliers are starting to turn their attention to the 2017 iPhone, which is shaping up to be very exciting indeed.
