We’ve had some exciting photo leaks of the new iPhone today, and now AppleInsider has some new details about the next phone’s screen, saying that according to DigiTimes, Taiwanese sources in Apple’s supply chain are saying that the next iPhone will be using low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology, with in-cell panels built by LG Display, Japan Display and Sharp. The sources say that Apple is expected to snap up around 70% of available LTPS touchscreens, leading to supply shortages in 2012 and 2013 for other manufacturers, with Apple getting the lion’s share of the displays. AppleInsider says that together, LG Display, Japan Display and Sharp have a quarterly production capacity of 95 million of this type of screen. Currently, they are working at around 75%, with a yield of around 72 million displays. Production of the next iPhone is due to start at the end of Q2 or the start of Q3, according to DigiTimes’ sources.
