MacRumors has a story today on a Digitimes report coming out of Taiwan to the effect that the iPhone 5 is expected to have a dual LED flash. According to Digitimes, Taiwan-based LED packaging companies Everlight Electronics, Edison Opto and Lite-On Technology are all being touted as suppliers for the necessary parts. And, naturally, all have denied that they are involved!

Why might Apple be doing this? Well according to MacRumors, the increase in brightness that having dual LED flash units fitted brings to the users pictures would be one very good reason. With other recent rumours speculating that the iPhone 5 will have an 8-megapixel camera, and Flickr recently reporting that the iPhone is now the most popular of all cameras used on the site, some people may soon be deciding to ditch their regular cameras and rely on just their iPhones, if that isn’t happening already! Hopefully we’ll know for sure this September if and when the next phone is launched.

A bright flash too close to the sensor might cause problems. They might space it out a bit too.
