as in holding the phone in a way that you cover both "slots" on bottom right and left of the phone..

yes they can but it would lock you out completely or wipe the phone not just stop a signal.. get another sim from the carrier and try that maybe, did you get the phone from the carrier directly or ebay some one claiming its that carrier?

It is that carrier because I seen it was locked to Rogers.

I'm restoring it now, perhaps not properly putting my old regular sim card to the new micro sim, as in transferring it has it thinking it's not a working sim card?

I just didn't transfer my sim cards properly. So when is this untethered unlock coming anyways? Do you use the tethered ones?
